There are many people in your situation who came to the US as children. Do you feel like you have come to belong in the US or do you still feel new here?

I arrived in the United State this August. My parents in- law bought us here. It was such a difficult decision for me to come to the U.S because I got a comfortable life in Viet Nam. Moving to a new culture means that I have to start everything over, including in different customs and English. In spite of that, it is said that living in the U.S will bring good education and good future to your child. So, that's why I'm here.

Hello. My name is Ana Tovar. I am from Mexico. I decided to come to the United States because I am overwhelmingly dissatisfied with the direction of my country. There is a variety of national problems like crimes, drugs, corruption, a troubled economy and then I though I will be better in the U.S. I will enjoy a better life here. I come here to be a successful nurse, to study and learn more about my profession and to improve my English.

I am from Myanmar also know as Burma. I moved to Thailand in 2001 because we have burmese refugee camp in Thailand. I lived in refugee camp for nine years. There are no freedom. For Examples, limited to go, limited to live, limited to learn and to work. Therefore, I decided to come here. I would say I come here for freedom. I came here as a refugee.

In my country, safety in human life is not well because there are a lot of traffic accidents, harmful foods, robbers.

I am from Burundi in Africa. I have lived in San Diego for 15 months. My family and I were not in safety in my country. I decided to come to the U.S. because I was looking a good place for my children. A place where they can have good schools and continue their academic training.

I am from Tijuana,Mexico. I been here 6 years ago and i decide to come to the U.S because i get married and my husband works in the U.S,Tijuana is a border so it's more comfortable live in san diego than in tijuana and wait everyday hours to cross to the U.S.

Evelyn, I know how you feel about the border crossing. Many years ago, my brother and sister-in-law, who is Mexican, lived in Rosarito. After 911, they had to move north of the border because it took them several hours to cross the border each day.
